What does 'matching numbers' mean — and why does it matter?
Matching numbers means your original engine with its original engine number stays in the vehicle. With an exchange engine the engine number is swapped — vehicle papers no longer match, the ECU has to be re-paired, and for collector cars, classics, lease cars or high-value used vehicles, resale value drops noticeably. Rebuilding preserves originality and value.
How long does a MIK Motoren rebuilt engine last?
Our engines have a realistic life expectancy well beyond 300,000 km. Why: we eliminate the known weak points (design flaws, planned failure points) of the specific engine family and replace them with optimised components — reworked oil pumps, hardened bearing shells, timing chains instead of plastic guides. Your engine leaves us not like new — better than new.
Why does MIK Motoren also check the periphery (EGR, injectors, turbo)?
Because a freshly rebuilt engine dies in 40,000 km from overlooked periphery. Typical co-culprits: coked EGR cooler, leaky injectors, worn HP pump, failing turbo, faulty sensors, mistuned ECU. We systematically inspect each of these components, swap them with the rebuild if needed — and log what was checked.
When is an engine rebuild worth it vs. an exchange engine?
Rule of thumb: if the vehicle value exceeds 2–3× the rebuild cost, rebuilding almost always pays off. For damage to bearings, pistons, valves or head gaskets, rebuilding is usually cheaper and higher quality than a used exchange engine – because you know exactly what you're getting. What warranty does MIK Motoren offer on rebuilt engines?
24 months full warranty on labour and installed parts, with no mileage limit when we handle installation. When installed by a third-party workshop, statutory warranty applies, provided installation is properly documented.
Does MIK Motoren collect from outside Germany – Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, etc.?
Yes. Free EU-wide; Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy and Poland against a transport-cost contribution. All transports fully insured. Pickup typically within 48 hours of order confirmation.

Can I buy an exchange engine and have it installed elsewhere?
Yes. We supply rebuilt exchange engines without installation too – with 6 months warranty on the engine itself (no installation warranty, since we can't control installation quality). We strongly recommend installation by our workshop or a certified master workshop.
What happens if there's a problem after the rebuild?
Call or email us. We diagnose remotely, collect the vehicle free of charge if needed (within warranty period), fix the issue, and return it. In 15 years we've had this happen in under 2% of cases – but when it does, we handle it.
What documentation do I need for the quote?
Nothing. Licence plate or VIN is enough. We auto-pull model, engine code and spec. If you already have a diagnostic report, error codes or workshop protocol – upload a photo and we'll price even more precisely.
